This guide walks you through connecting your server, inviting the bot, and enabling your first automations.

What you need

  • Discord permissions: Manage Server to invite bots and Administrator to run /setup.
  • Access to the Discord Buddy dashboard at https://www.discord-buddy.com/ with a Discord login.
  • A couple of test channels to try features without disrupting members.

Step 1: Sign in on the website

  • Visit https://www.discord-buddy.com/ and sign in with Discord.
  • Approve the prompt so Discord Buddy can see which servers you manage.
  • Open Manage Discord from the avatar dropdown and pick your server to reach its dashboard.

Step 2: Invite Discord Buddy

  • Use the Invite Bot button on your server dashboard or run /help to grab the invite link.
  • Leave the Administrator permission checked so setup can read channels and roles automatically.
  • After the bot joins, run `/ping` or `/help` to confirm it is responding.

Step 3: Sync your channels and roles

  • In Discord, run `/setup` and pick Update Channels and Roles for Website.
  • This sync keeps dropdowns on the dashboard (Reaction Roles, Welcome, Tickets, XP, etc.) aware of your latest channels and roles.
  • Re-run the update whenever you add new channels or roles.

Step 4: Configure your first features

Welcome new members

  • Dashboard: Manage Discord > Welcome for text greetings or Manage Discord > Welcome Image for banner-style welcomes.
  • Optional: set a rules channel and an automated DM to greet members privately.

Automate roles

  • Dashboard: Manage Discord > Reaction Roles or Manage Discord > Button Roles to assign roles from message reactions or buttons. Custom emoji tags like `<:emoji_name:emoji_id>` are supported.
  • Command: `/setup` > Command Roles to choose which roles can use each slash command.

Tickets and applications

  • Dashboard: Manage Discord > Ticket System to configure support categories, transcripts, and logging.
  • Command: `/setup` > Create Ticket Embed to drop a support button; `/setup` > Create Application Embed to collect applications.

Engagement and leveling

  • XP and leveling are off by default. Enable them from Manage Discord > XP or `/setup` > XP System, then tune values with `/xpsettings`.
  • Use XP multiplier and reward commands to spotlight active members once leveling is live.

Branding

  • Dashboard: Manage Discord > Banners and Manage Discord > Icons to upload rotating server art managed by the bot.

Step 5: Keep things tidy

  • Revisit `/setup` to refresh channel/role lists and premium status after big server changes.
  • Check Manage Discord > Logs and Audit Logs to review recent bot actions.
  • Need help? Run `/help` for quick links to the support server, Terms, and Privacy.
